'If Shilpa Had Left Me, I Wouldn't Have Survived': Raj Kundra Opens Up About Jail Ordeal

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband, Raj Kundra, faced difficult times in 2021. Actor and businessman was arrested by the Mumbai Police in a pornography case and spent 63 days in Arthur Road Jail. During this time, news of his separation from his wife, Shilpa Shetty, surfaced. However, these reports turned out to be false.

What did Raj say about Shilpa?

In a podcast, Raj revealed that he faced a difficult time after coming out of jail and Shilpa Shetty supported him, becoming his strength. 

The actor said that back then, the media constantly reported news of divorce, which scared him. The actress then told her husband, "Leave it, Raj. Ignore it. I'm with you for life." 

Raj added, "If I ever thought Shilpa was going to leave me, I would have taken my own life in jail. Shilpa gave me the courage to endure my days in jail." 

How did Raj Kundra connect with spirituality in jail?

While sharing about his inclination towards spirituality, Raj Kundra said that he transformed from an atheist to a believer. 

The actor said that, "There was a corner in the jail where people of all religions performed puja. There were separate sections in each room. Hindus performed aarti, Muslims offered namaz, and Christians prayed. I used to see everyone there. There was brotherhood, unlike the outside world. Everyone performed their puja in turn. The priest asked me to join the puja, but I refused. He said, 'I will have to come someday.' I sat in the puja and performed aarti."

Did Raj Kundra performed puja in jail? 

During his jail term, Raj Kundra started connected with the God and also shared about the emotional and professional impact of the ongoing legal proceedings connected to the pornography case in which he was arrested in 2021.

"There was a photo of Sai Baba there. He was very quiet. He wasn't smiling. I told him, 'Your daughter Shilpa respects you so much, please help me a little. Where am I stuck?' I started talking to him. On the 62nd day, when I was performing aarti (sacred ritual), I performed it with all my heart, I saw a smile on Sai Baba's face. The next day, I was released on bail," he said.

What about other festivals?

Raj explained that Ganpati was enshrined in the prison during Ganesh Chaturthi. During those days, prisoners were allowed to dance, chant, and shout. As soon as Ganpati was immersed on the 11th day, he was out of the prison.

Raj explained that he has been fighting the case for the past four years. He has been framed through a conspiracy. He has faced a massive media trial. But why should he be afraid when he hasn't done anything?
